Centre for Applied Psychology and Criminology

The Centre has concentrated on methods of reducing violence including crime prevention techniques, psychological profiling, new ways of interviewing persons, and risk assessment of persons and situations.

Terrorism and security issues are also of recent concern to the Centre and in a major project funded by the Australian Government, staff in the Centre are currently evaluating CCTV in cooperation with the Queensland Police, the Gold Coast City Council, Queensland Rail and Crime Prevention Queensland.

The Centre has also become heavily involved in miscarriage of justice cases and issues of social equity relating to the Aboriginal community.

Centre staff often give evidence in court on a whole range of psychological and criminological matters and have gained a high profile through numerous media interviews, lectures, books and academic journal articles and reports.
