The Centre for Research in Evidence-Based Practice in conjunction with a number of research networks are pleased to invite you to their upcoming Protocol Development Workshop to be held at Bond University. The Centre will deliver this workshop with partners The Australasian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN).
Overview
The Workshop is designed as a three day intensive training program focused on the essentials of clinical trials design. Participants will need to submit a clinical trial outline prior to registration, which will be reviewed by the facilitators, and those selected will be informed. In the workshop this outline will be developed into a full protocol. The workshop can include protocol development for any area related to health and medicine, for example, general practice, medical specialties, allied health, exercise science, psychology, nutrition, medical education.
Objectives
- Imparting principles of good clinical trial design, which yield clear results to apply in the clinic and in future research
- Exposing participants to the full spectrum of challenges in clinical research, from conventional pharmaceutical agents to multidisciplinary treatment programs
- Encouraging participants to develop their first clinical trial protocol, and to continue clinical research
- Cultivating well-trained, experienced researchers to propel the region forward in therapy and prevention through clinical trials, medical practice and patient care
- Fostering collaboration and facilitation of clinical trials in the region
Format
- The Workshop contains a variety of educational components which aid participants in successful protocol design, including:
- Protocol development sessions in which participants present and discuss their clinical trial proposal in detail in small groups led by experienced clinical trialists
- Lectures will present specific topics aimed to give participants an essential overview of the principles of designing and conducting high-quality clinical trials
- Small group discussion sessions provide time to address a variety of clinical trials designs and address specific relevant issues
- One-on-one sessions provide individual counselling and advice on protocol and career development
Selection of Participants
The facilitators will review and accept applications. Decisions will be based largely on the quality and feasibility of the proposed protocol. We will be seeking assurance from applicants’ workplaces that the proposed clinical trial will be undertaken by the applicant and team.
