Commencement of Examinations

Students should report to the examination room at least 20 minutes prior to commencement time. Students will be admitted to the examination room on a subject-by-subject basis and should know their seat number (printed on your timetable). Students should proceed directly to their seat in silence.

University policy on late arrival or failing to attend an exam
No student will be permitted entry to an examination room if they arrive more than 30 minutes after the published examination start time.

Students are warned that misreading the timetable does not constitute valid grounds for the granting of a deferred examination.

Before the examination commences
Strict silence is to be maintained by all students from the time they enter the examination room.

Students will be instructed to complete an attendance form and fill in the covers of all examination booklets.

Perusal Time – all examinations include 15 minutes perusal time to allow students to read the examination paper.

During this time students must follow the instructions outlined on the examination question paper. All queries regarding the accuracy of the examination paper should be directed to their academic supervisor during perusal time.

Food, drink and electronic devices

Students are not permitted to bring food or drink into the examination room – drinking water is available.

Bags, briefcases, mobile phones, laptops or other electronic devices are not permitted in the examination room. Electronic devices discovered in an examination room will be confiscated.

Students are advised to check with the subject coordinators, well before the examination period, on which material is permitted in an examination (eg textbooks) for use during the examination. Unauthorised materials such as notes or crib sheets will be confiscated for the duration of the examination and a charge of cheating may be referred to the academic misconduct committee.

Conclusion of the Examination
Students will be given a 10 minute warning prior to conclusion of the exam.

Students are not permitted to leave the room in the last 10 minutes as it can be disruptive to other students still working on their answers.
