AUSTRALIAN HIGHER EDUCATION GRADUATION STATEMENT

In 2007, a consortium of universities from across Australia were commissioned by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), to develop a single agreed template for the Australian Diploma Supplement formally referred to as the Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS). The AHEGS is a Commonwealth initiative in response to the Bologna Process and will also assist in improving the recognition, portability and transparency of Australian qualifications within Australia and overseas.

Bond University will introduce the Graduation Statement for students who have their award conferred on or after February 2011. The statement will be issued in addition to the testamur and academic transcript and will seek to describe higher education qualifications in an easily understood way. It describes the award, the awarding institution and the Australian higher education system and will assist potential employers and other institutions in gaining a better understanding of the graduate’s achievements.

The format of the Graduation Statement will comply with the conditions and guidelines set by DEEWR and will be issued in hard copy format. Bond has implemented all mandatory stipulated fields of the AHEGS as well as several optional elements relating to special student achievements. Additional information may be included in subsequent revisions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What will be included on the AHEGS?
The AHEGS presents the graduate’s academic achievements relating to a particular award, and any special awards and achievements beyond the course details. In addition, the AHEGS will include:
  • Award details
  • Awarding institution
  • Academic results
  • Description of the Australian higher education system
• University medals, prizes, and scholarships awarded on the basis of academic merit across an entire program
• Successful completion of the Bond University Professional Placement (BUPP) program

Will fail grades appear on my statement?
Yes, fail grades must be included on the AHEGS. It has been decided that as this is common practice on academic transcripts, it should also be common practice on the AHEGS in order to provide the prospective employer with a clearer picture on prospective employees.

Will I still receive my Testamur and Academic transcript?
Yes, the Graduation Statement will be issued to graduating students in addition to their testamur. The Graduation Statement will contain a course specific academic transcript. While an academic transcript can be a progressive record of all studies undertaken at Bond, the Graduation Statement records only studies undertaken for a particular award.

Can I purchase additional copies of my graduation statement?
Yes. Similar to academic transcripts, at least one copy of the AHEGS should be provided free of charge to a graduate on completion of their qualification. Should the graduate require multiple copies, or a replacement copy, then this may be provided at a cost.

Will graduation statements be handed out retrospectively?
No. The AHEGS will only be issued to students who graduate from February 2011 onwards

If I receive a prize after graduation, can these be included on my graduation statement?
In some cases a university prize is awarded after graduation. Graduates awarded an eligible university prize for performance in an award program after graduation will be entitled to a replacement graduation statement and will be issued a revised statement upon request.

What happens if there is an error on my graduation statement?
While every effort is made to ensure that the statements are correct, if there is a misprint or other error, graduates will need to contact Student Administration. Any replacement due to an error will be issued free of charge
