Bringing the Family

Your partner and children can come with you to Australia while you study at Bond but you will need to consider the following:

Visas

Most Student Visas allow you to bring your family members to Australia as your dependants if you are:

  • assessment level 1 or 2; or
  • assessment level 3 or 4 and your course is longer than 12 months or you have been in Australia for 12 months or more.

Visit the Student Guardian or Bringing Family pages on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website (www.immi.gov.au).

Employment Opportunities

If your partner is on a Dependent Student Visa, they can apply for a work visa.  They will need to obtain permission to work and will have to comply with the restrictions outlined in the visa. Spouses of postgraduate international students are entitled to work full time, while those of undergraduates are able to work 20 hours per week.

Your partner can look for work before coming to Australia through popular employment websites:

Learning English

Your husband or wife can enrol in Bond University’s English Language Institute (BUELI) to learn English, where they will study on the Bond University campus in a multicultural classroom.

Enrolling Children at School

If you have children aged between 5 and 18 and will be living in Australia for more than 3 months, you will to enrol them in an Australian School.
