Dashes

Dashes aren’t used in formal writing. However, they are used in informal writing the same way a comma would be used in formal work – to add an extra remark or information –- as a disruption. The dash is seen as stronger. Example: Women – of course – are better at multitasking than men. A dash can also be used to start a list informally, instead of the normal colon.
