Writing and Essay Structure All writing must be structured if it wants to be interesting, persuasive, and, of course, get good marks. The following topics have been designed to guide you through the stages of structuring an essay. Work through them logically or choose an area that you have problems with. There are examples to help you see what to do and what not to do. This is a basic view of how the finished essay should look:  Note that in long essays the evidence to back up a point or argument will take many paragraphs and not just one.
