Masters Degrees
- Master of Laws (LLM)
- Master of Jurisprudence (M Juris)
- Master of Business Law (MBL)
Duration: 2 semesters full-time (8 subjects)
Intakes: Each January, May & September
Entry Requirements:
The Master of Laws program is offered
to students with an undergraduate
qualification in law. Applicants would
normally be required to have at least
a Credit or 70% average and/or
extensive professional experience. Students from non-English speaking backgrounds must achieve an IELTS score of 7.0. The
Master of Jurisprudence and Master
of Business Law may be undertaken
by students who have a non-law
undergraduate degree, again with a Credit or 70% average and/or relevant professional experience.
These courses can be completed in
two semesters full-time (eight months).
An undergraduate (LLB) student at
Bond University can enrol for the
Master of Laws degree during the last
two semesters of the undergraduate
program.
Undergraduate law students will only
be admitted if they have achieved an
average of 70% during the previous six
semesters of undergraduate study and
their application is approved by the
Dean of the Law Faculty.
Program Description:
Bond offers a range of Masters
qualifications for both law and non-law
graduates. These postgraduate
qualifications are suitable for both
Australian and international students and can include advanced
study in the following specialist areas:
- Corporate and Commercial Law
- Alternative Dispute Resolution
- International Trade Law
- Intellectual Property, Information Technology and E-Commerce
Program Structure:
Students must complete 2 compulsory subjects:
• Introduction to Common Law *
• Advanced Legal Research and Writing
and six electives. Students undertaking a specialisation area must undertake at least 4 electives from that area. If appropriate supervision is available, students may elect to replace two elective subjects with a 20,000 word minor dissertation. It is also possible to complete the degree entirely via a 60,000 word major research thesis on an approved topic.
* Students who have completed Business Law or Australian Legal System are exempt from this subject.
Combined Degrees:
Combined degrees are encouraged
and take between three and five
semesters full-time to complete. A
Law Masters can be combined with
most other postgraduate awards.
Popular combinations include Master
of Business Law/MBA and Master of
International Relations/Master of Laws
(International Trade Law). Students
must meet admission requirements
for both awards and need to complete
a number of subjects from each
program.
Professional Outcomes:
For domestic students with a law
background, the LLM provides a
specialist postgraduate qualification
for students intending to practice
law in Australia. For international
students it provides a wide range
of international law, comparative
law, IP and trade law, and dispute
resolution subjects to broaden and
internationalise an undergraduate
law qualification. The MBL and
MJuris provide opportunities for
students from non-law or quasilegal
backgrounds to undertake a
postgraduate law qualification that
focuses on directly relevant areas of
law.
Professional Recognition:
These awards are not professional degrees and do not qualify students to practice law in Australia.
