Negotiation and Dispute Resolution
Attention is given throughout the law program to various alternative methods of dispute resolution and to the advantages and disadvantages of each method. The object of this approach is to broaden students' views as to the range of methods of dispute resolution available beyond those provided by conventional court litigation.
Students are introduced to the general principles and techniques of a variety of styles and approaches to negotiation. Particular emphasis is placed on Interest-based and positional approaches to negotiation. A range of negotiation techniques and strategies are canvassed, including those required for successful team negotiation. Small group seminars, simulations and role-plays are used to assist students in developing practical skills in these areas.
