Legal Writing and Drafting
Students receive exposure to the various types of writing and drafting work commonly encountered in legal practice. Heavy emphasis is placed on the principles of plain English writing and drafting, structure and organisation of documents, proof-reading and spelling, and methods of footnoting and legal citation. Students are also taught the techniques essential to the preparation of a variety of legal documents including letters, opinions and legal memoranda, and legal instruments such as contracts.
Students are expected to provide written assignments as part of the assessment for a number of subjects to demonstrate their mastery of this legal skill as well as reinforcing substantive concepts dealt with in the subject.
