Program Objectives:

Unlike the Bachelor of Laws, the Bachelor of Jurisprudence (B Juris) degree is not designed to provide a qualification for the professional practice of law. It provides a basic knowledge of law, an opportunity to study legal subjects of particular interest, a flexible structure and the opportunity to combine study in related areas such as languages, international relations, criminology, , communications and journalism.

Program Structure:

• 1 compulsory law subject (Australian Legal System)
• 11 law subjects
• 4 core subjects
• 8 Humanities subjects including a four-subject minor

A standard full-time load is four subjects per semester over six semesters.

The degree structure permits various combinations of law and non-law subjects. This flexibility enables students to design their programs to meet a variety of career interests.

Professional Outcomes:

Law is increasingly regarded as an excellent preparation for a wide range of careers and, with arts and sciences, is an important source of liberal education. Careers in politics, business, teaching, public service, industrial relations and international relations are among the many open to law graduates.

Professional Recognition:

Unlike the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, the B Juris is not designed to provide a qualification for the professional practice of law. Graduates of this degree may qualify for the LLB upon completion of a further 16 law subjects.

Combined Degrees:

Both of these degrees are usually taken in combination with other Bond degrees. Combined degrees are encouraged by the Faculty of Law and take between two years eight months and four years (full-time). Popular combinations include:

Bachelor of Arts / B Juris
Bachelor of International Relations / B Juris
Bachelor of Communication / B Juris
