Bond Law degree recognised in India

In 2006, the Bond University LLB became one of a small )nal law degrees recognised by the Bar Council of India for the purposes of professional admission.

Bond Faculty of Law has always received a number of students from India. One of the earliest was Sartaj Gill, who came to us from Tamil Nadu. Sartaj obtained First Class Honours in 1994 before undertaking a postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge. He returned to Bond as a faculty member before moving to the USA. He is now a partner in banking and finance law with Davis Polk and Wardell, a major law firm in New York.

Now that Bond is accredited with the Bar Council of India, we look forward to welcoming more students from India. They will join a faculty which is multinational in character and includes ethnic Indians from Canada, Fiji and Malaysia as well as Australia.

Indians interested in studying at Bond are invited to contact Associate Professor Field.

Professional admission in India

The conditions for the recognition of our LLB by the bar Council of India, require.that a student also have an undergraduate degree in another discipline. Indian students who do not already have such a degree should enrol in one of our combined degrees such as the LLB/B Com. In addition, Students 'must undergo a 3 year regular course of study'.

Following graduation, students 'must take an examination prescribed by the Bar council of India to make them eligible for enrolment as advocates in India'.

Note that admission rules are subject to change. The rules in each jurisdiction should be examined carefully to determine the requirements.

Which LAW program should I take?

Students who have already completed a first degree may enrol in the Juris Doctor (JD) program. However, only the LLB is recognised for the purposes of admission to the legal profession by the Bar Council of India.

Students who have not completed a first degree must enrol in the LLB program. Credit towards the elective component of the LLB degree will ordinarily be given for at least four subjects from any pre-law university studies.
