Information for Students from Norway

Study Abroad at Bond University, Gold Coast, Australia

Bond University offers studies in an international environment, with staff and students from all parts of the globe. The Bond University Norwegian Students' Association (BUNSA) is among the most active of Bond's student associations, catering for our over 120 Norwegian students.

Studying Law at Bond

Credits earned at Bond University can be recognised in the Cand Jur degree at Norwegian universities. The subjects offered at the highly regarded Bond Faculty of Law consist of a mix of ‘traditional’ internationally relevant law subjects, as well as many in dispute resolution (arbitration, negotiation, mediation, etc). The dispute resolution subjects are popular amongst Norwegian students since they are not available in Norway. International trade law, advocacy, e-commerce, company law and sports law are also Bond Law specialities, with leading academic staff in these disciplines.

Students who have completed up to three years of study in Norway will be admitted to Bond University's undergraduate program. Students with additional years of study in Norway have a number of postgraduate options:

  • One full-time semester as an undergraduate or postgraduate Study Abroad student is equivalent to one semester of elective studies in Norway.
  • Bond University offers a one-semester Diploma in Law that consists of four subjects designed especially for civil law students, including the subject Introduction to Common Law for Civil Lawyers.
  • Bond also offers one-semester Diplomas in corporate and commercial law, international trade law, and dispute resolution.
  • Norwegians who stay at Bond University for two semesters can obtain the degree of Master of Laws (LLM), after completing eight postgraduate subjects or six subjects and a 20,000 word research paper.
  • Top postgraduate students may go on to doctoral degrees such as the SJD and PhD.

Language Requirements

  • Bond normally requires international students to undertake a language test to demonstrate their English skills.
  • If the required score is not obtained in the test, or if the student wants to improve their English skills, the Bond University English Language Institute (BUELI) offers a preliminary language course on campus.
  • Norwegian students who apply through IEC can use their high school diploma as proof of their language skills; a grade of 4 or higher is required either in the core English subject or as an elective.

Funding

  • A student exchange arrangement has been negotiated with Bergen University and the University of Oslo. Exchange students at Bond University pay no tuition fees. The Norwegian Government (Lånekassen) then provides the student with funding equal to what would be received if studying in Norway and in addition a travel grant.
  • For a paying student at Bond University, the Norwegian Government (Lånekassen) provides funding equal to what would be received if studying in Norway and in addition a grant to cover some of the school fees (gebyrstipend) and a travel grant.
  • The David Doublet scholarship is available to one student each year from Bergen University.

The Application Process

  • The exchange program is organised through the administration at the Norwegian University.
  • Kilroy Education offers assistance when filling out the application form, and also serves as the link between the student and Bond University; it faxes the application to Bond and receives the offer letter and the confirmation of enrolment letter which it forwards to the student by post. Kilroy also offers assistance with the visa application process.
