Credit Policy - Postgraduate

Juris Doctor

Compulsory subjects

To obtain credit for compulsory subjects, the content of the previously undertaken subject/s must cover at least 75% of the content of the Bond subject/s for which credit is being sought. A maximum of 80 CP may be awarded.

Subjects which are the basis for which the credit is sought must normally have been taught in a professionally recognized law degree in a university or be eligible for credit towards an LLB degree (or equivalent) at their home institution.

Credit or advanced standing obtained or granted towards a compulsory subject shall normally be cancelled 9 years after the end of the year during which the credit or advanced standing was obtained if the candidate has not, by that date, completed the requirements of the degree.

Electives

Credit may be granted for up to 75 CP of electives on the basis of prior postgraduate law subjects undertaken.


Masters Degrees

Credit may be granted for up to 35 credit points towards Masters degrees (LLM, MBL or M Juris) on the basis of previous LLM or SJD studies.

Students undertaking a Master Of Laws (International Legal Practise) may be eligible for credit up to 20 CP.   

Students who have completed previous studies in common law will receive credit for Introduction to Common Law (5 CP).

Students who have previously completed a Graduate Diploma in Law or Juris Doctor can obtain a maximum of 20 CP credit (ie one x 15 CP elective subject and Introduction to Common Law (5 CP).


Master of Legal Practice

Students who complete a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Bond are eligible for 35 CP credit towards the Master of Law (Legal Practice).
