Why Study Law at Bond

Law Scholarships

The Faculty of Law offers financial aid to eligible students through a number of Faculty-specific scholarships and bursaries.

Law Dean’s Scholarships

Each year, the Dean of Law presents a limited number of part scholarships to outstanding Australian school-leavers. The application criteria includes:

  • For a 40% scholarship: OP1 or equivalent (TER 98.5 approximately) and evidence of very high all-round ability
  • For a 25% scholarship: OP2 or equivalent (TER 98.5 approximately) and evidence of high all-round ability

(All round ability includes leadership, sporting, cultural and community activities such as school captain or prefect, state or regional sporting representative, achievements in music, debating, national competitions, etc.)

Recipients must achieve satisfactory grades each semester at Bond to retain their scholarship.

Corporate Scholarships

At Bond University, we strive to produce graduates that are distinguished by the practical, industry-relevant knowledge. Bond University Corporate Scholarships are an integral part of this objective. These scholarships aim to connect our most outstanding students with Australia’s most prestigious and ambitious companies.

The Law Faculty has established partnerships with prestige law firms to offer the following corporate scholarships:

  • The Minter Ellison Scholarship
  • The Clayton Utz Scholarship
  • The Price and Roobottom Scholarship

The structure and elements of the scholarships are as follows:

  • A 50% scholarship
  • Awarded to one student annually, for the duration of the student’s degree
  • The Scholarship winner will undertake an internship with the sponsoring firm.
  • Both domestic and international students are eligible for these scholarships

Selection Criteria

  • Available to students completing Year 12 in an Australian secondary school
  • Predicted OP 1-3 or interstate equivalent, with As/Bs or VHAs/HAs on reports
  • Must attend on-campus assessment weekend incorporating interview, management exercise and peer assessment in September.

Postgraduate Scholarships

Scholarships for outstanding postgraduate students are available on the basis of academic merit. These offerings are extremely competitive and would require a GPA of at least 6.0/Distinction

Masters Scholarships

Scholarships may be awarded to Bond University Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) graduates who wish to complete a Master of Laws (LLM) by coursework. The application criteria includes:

  • For a 25% scholarship: LLB/JD with First Class Honours
  • For a 10% scholarship: LLB/JD with 2A or 2B Honours

Recipients must achieve a 65% average each semester at Bond and maintain a pattern of enrolment that enables them to complete their LLM within three years.

David Doublet Scholarship

The David Doublet Scholarship, valued at approximately $2,500, is awarded annually to a selected exchange student from Bergen University, Norway.

Scholarships are not awarded for the JD program

Bursaries

25% Bursaries are allocated to students from Papua New Guinea, Africa and South Pacific nations on the basis of financial need and the application of income and asset tests.

Recipients are required to maintain a 55% average each semester to retain their bursary. Bursary applications should accompany your university admission application.

Application Deadlines

  • For January admission: November 1 of the previous year
  • For May admission: March 31st
  • For September admission: July 31st
N.B. Other university scholarships have earlier deadlines

Deferrals

New and continuing students may defer their commencement date for up to one year while retaining their financial aid.

Conditions

In addition to those specified above, all scholarships must maintain a nominated semester average.

Undergraduate students will normally receive a first warning if they average below the required level. If they then fail to meet the specified average in the following semester, all financial aid will be withdrawn. Postgraduates students normally receive no warning. Gross failure of a subject and misconduct (including plagiarism) may also represent grounds for the withdrawal of financial aid.
