Criminologists come from a variety of backgrounds such as law, psychology and other social sciences. Recently, however the field has become more specialised with undergraduate and postgraduate offerings. Bond University has established an undergraduate double major and also offers a Postgraduate Diploma and a Masters degree which focus on the forensic realm. Bond was the first to offer a subject in criminal profiling and we continue to emphasise this and other forensic criminology areas.

Employment prospects for criminologists are rapidly expanding as crime continues to dominate social and political discourse. Positions for criminologists include research, teaching, intelligence analysis, policy analysis, program development, service delivery and consulting. Criminologists are also employed or provide services to private agencies and organisations such as large retail stores, computer companies, service station chains, telecommunication industries and so on. They are increasingly providing actuarial evidence in forensic matters and giving expert testimony in courts.
