Description
The Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science provides you with a solid understanding of the basic clinical and applied sciences with the primary focus on how the body responds differently to various exercise doses. You will learn how to measure these differences in order to recommend optimal exercise doses in the prevention and treatment of diseases, such as cardiovascular, metabolic and musculoskeletal conditions.
Learning strategies include a mix of lectures, tutorials and practical sessions using problem solving, case studies and clinical reasoning.
You will have the option in your second year to study in two majors; Exercise Science or Strength and Conditioning. Students completing the Exercise Science major will meet National University Course Accreditation Program (NUCAP) standards and graduates will be eligible for membership of the professional body, Exercise and Sports Science Australia (pending NUCAP application & accreditation in 2014). .
state-of-the-art gas analysis systems (MedGraphics and Parvo) that measure expired gases;
electronic bikes, treadmills, swim bench ergometer and stand up paddle ergometer to measure high performance in elite athletes;
an Innocor to measure cardiac output during exercise
12 lead wireless electrocardiograph
extensive biochemistry resources to measure the exercise response in high performance athletes.
Work Experience & Internships
The program contains a minimum 140 hours compulsory practicum, which is required for a graduate to be eligible for ESSA Exercise Science accreditation. You will have access to opportunities to complete this practicum with a wide range of organisations. Bond students have completed placements at the Australian Institute of Sport, Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence, Gold Coast Hospital, Pindara Physiotherapy, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Cardiac Investigations Unit, the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Queensland Reds Rugby Union, AFL Queensland / Gold Coast Suns and AIS Gold Coast.
You will also have the opportunity to pursue interstate tailored placements.
