English Language Requirements

In addition to satisfying the individual academic requirements for the postgraduate course they wish to study, students applying from overseas may need to provide formal evidence of English proficiency for direct entry as follows:

If English Language proficiency level is: Students may enter:

Direct entry to Bond University Master of Psychology (Clinical), Master of Psychology (Forensic), Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Masters in Educational Practice Programs in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences

IELTS score 7.0 (Writing & Speaking bands 7.0, Listening & Reading bands 6.5)
TOEFL score 627 (TWE 5#); [CBT 263, Essay rating 5.0]

Direct entry to Bond University postgraduate programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine

IELTS score 7.0 (No subscore less than 6.5)
TOEFL score 627 (TWE 5#); [CBT 263, Essay rating 5.0]

Direct entry to Bond University Master of Journalism in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences and postgraduate programs in the Faculty of Law

IELTS score 6.5 (No subscore less than 6.0)

Conditional entry to postgraduate programs in the Faculty of Law ^

Direct entry to Bond University postgraduate Business, Technology and Sustainable Development, and Humanities & Social Sciences programs.

Conditional entry to Bond University postgraduate Business, Technology and Sustainable Development, and Humanities & Social Sciences programs, undertaking specified English language subjects in addition to degree program.

IELTS score = 6.0 (No subscore less than 5.5)
TOEFL score 550 (TWE 5#); [CBT 213, Essay rating 5.0]

Direct entry to Bond University Graduate Certificate in University English Studies.

IELTS score = 5.5 (No subscore less than 5.0)
TOEFL score 530 (TWE 5#); [CBT 197, Essay rating 5.0]

Direct entry to Bond University Graduate Diploma in University English Studies.

IELTS score = or below 6.0 with bands below 5.5
TOEFL score below 550 [CBT below 213]

Bond University English Language Institute (BUELI)

# The TWE component is not offered at every testing session. Applicants who have not sat the TWE, or who achieve a score of less than 5, must enrol in Academic Writing Skills in their first semester at Bond. IELTS/TOEFL results to have been conducted not more than 24 months before the day on which the degree application was made. ^ The substitution of ENIL subjects where sub scores are less than 6.0 will not be permitted within the Faculty of Law at postgraduate level.

Other indicators

International students are not required to provide evidence of English language proficiency if they have:

  • a grade of C(11) or better in English as a Second Language in the South Australian Matriculation (SAM).
  • a grade of C or better in the Hong Kong ‘Use of English’ Examination (D required in individual modules).
  • successfully completed studies where English is the language of instruction. Evidence of English instruction will be required from the Principal or Registrar.

NOTE: In the interests of ensuring students’ academic competency, students admitted under any of the above, who are having academic difficulties due to English language, may be asked to undertake an English language test at the discretion of the Faculty of enrolment.
