Program DESCRIPTION

The Master of Accounting (Professional) is designed to provide an opportunity for students with undergraduate training in other fields to gain a professional accounting qualification.  The degree may be commenced in either the January, May or September semesters and requires the equivalent of 12 full unit subjects to be completed in a minimum of four semesters of study.  The course offers both a firm academic grounding and a ‘hands on’ understanding of the industry, and is accredited by the CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the National Institute of Accountants.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission is based on an assessment of work experience, prior academic record and motivation.  Applicants must have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline other than accounting, or hold a non-degree professional accounting qualification with at least five years’ work experience. Applicants without a recognised prior qualification will be required to undertake a further four full-units of coursework.  The additional four units constitute a Graduate Certificate in Business.

Enrolment

International Students: To fulfil your student visa requirements, you’ll need to enrol in 30cp per semester. However, you may enrol in 40cp per semester (with your Program Advisor’s authorisation) which will reduce the time to complete your program.

Domestic Students have the option of undertaking either 30 or 40cp per semester.

Professional Outcomes

Master of Accounting (Professional) graduates are eligible for employment in professional accounting practices (Public Accounting or Chartered Accountants), Corporation, the public sectors and not-for-profit organisations.

Work Experience & Internships

Students can apply to undertake an internship as part of their degree.

This intensely practical professional development approach fosters graduates who are ready, willing and able to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact in the workplace.

WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING

Work Integrated Learning is designed to promote and support student learning, personal development and professional practice. Students will participate in a series of experiential exercises which may include field trips, seminars featuring guest lectures from industry leaders, work experience and projects. All exercises are monitored by academic staff and in conjunction with career advisor. The subject aims to: facilitate students’ self-analysis and reflective issues and problems; and apply theoretical knowledge in seeking solutions for practical workplace problems.
