Program Structure
Core Subjects
Every Bachelor degree student at Bond is required to complete at least one subject from each of the following four discipline clusters
Communication (1)
- CORE11-100 Communication Skills
- CORE11-101 Public Speaking: Presentation Skills for Leaders
Outcomes: To communicate effectively in writing, speaking and visual; to understand the nature of communication processes and sources of difficulty in communication.
Information Technology (1)
- CORE11-110 Information Technology 1
- CORE11-111 Business Applications of IT
Outcomes: To work effectively with contemporary information technology; to evaluate critically the current and future role of computing technology in the storage, retrieval and processing of information.
Values (1)
- CORE11-120 Cultural and Ethical Values
- CORE11-120 Contemporary Issues in Law and Society
Outcomes: To appreciate the foundation of moral, ethical and social theories and their relevance to issues of public concern and debate; to use theoretical ideas in formulating arguments about how particular issues should be resolved.
Organisations (1)
- CORE11-130 Strategic Management
- CORE11-131 Entrepreneurship
Outcomes: To appreciate the natural, dynamic and strategic positioning of organisations within their environments; to appreciate the nature of effective work in groups.
Foundation Subjects (6)
Students must complete all of the following subjects:
- AUST11-100 Major Australian Writing
- JOUR12-230 Ethical and Legal Strategies for the Media
- COMN12-203 Mass Media
- JOUR11-101 The Australian Media
Plus one (1) of the following subjects:
- ECON11-100 Principles of Economics (School of Business) OR
- INTR12-214 International Political Economy
Plus one (1) of the following subjects:
- INTR-100 Introduction to International Relations
- AUST11-102 Australian Government and Politics (Faculty of Law)
Journalism major (8)
Students must complete:
- JOUR11-100 Writing for News Media
- JOUR12-180 Journalism Research Methods
- JOUR12-240 Newspaper Reporting
- JOUR13-315 Foundations of Broadcast Journalism
Plus four (4) of the following subjects:
- JOUR13-305 Photojournalism, Editing and Publishing
- JOUR13-300 Freelance Writing: Magazine and Creative Non-Fiction
- JOUR13-318 Reporting Specialities: Sports, Travel, Fashion
- JOUR13-320 Broadcast Journalism Practice
- JOUR12-250 Foreign Correspondence
Reporting specialisation/Electives (4)
Minor in specialist reporting field, four 4 subjects in one of the following areas:
- Television Journalism (Film and Television),
- Health Reporting (Health Sciences or Psychology),
- IT Reporting (Information Technology),
- Business and Finance Reporting (Business and Finance),
- Foreign Correspondence (IR or Languages),
- Crime Reporting (Criminology or Law) or
- Sports Reporting (Health Sciences).
or choose 4 electives, of which at least 2 must come from the H&SS list of undergraduate subjects
Journalism practicum (2)
Students must complete:

- JOUR13-600 Special Topic in Journalism
