John Burton Cadetship-sCholarship

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The John Burton Cadetship-Scholarship in Journalism is awarded annually to Year 12 students who have strong academic credentials and a demonstrated commitment to a career in print journalism. As a partnership between Bond University and the Gold Coast Bulletin, it is a four-year program alternating work and study, with a guaranteed position as a newspaper journalist on completion. Successful candidates will study for their Bachelor of Journalism and work as a paid cadet at the Gold Coast Bulletin on a semester-on/semester-off basis.

VALUE
  • 50% of tuition fees of a Bachelor of Journalism, with the balance being offset by wages earned at the newspaper.
  • Cadetship at the Gold Coast Bulletin, whereby the recipient studies and works on an alternating semesterly basis.
AVAILABILITY

Generally, Bond University will awards 1 John Burton Cadetship each year.

SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Available to students completing Year 12 in an Australian secondary school.
  • Strong academic performance with As/Bs on Year 10-12 school reports or other applicable transcripts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a career in print journalism.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
  • Extensive involvement in extra-curricular activities.
