Secondary School Equivalence Table

CountryEquivalence

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level subjects

A minimum of two and a maximum of three (the best three) A level grades are used for entry.
A maximum of two AS level subjects may be combined to substitute for one A Level subject.
Faculty of Law requires a minimum total of 10 points.
All other Faculties and the Institute of Sustainable Development and Architecture require a minimum total of 5 points.
Points system:
A level subjects: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1
AS level subjects: A=2.5, B=2, C=1.5, D=1, E=0.5

Australia

Year 12 or equivalent (in other Australian states).

Brunei Darussalam

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

Canada

Faculty of Law: Provincial High School Diploma - best of 6 4U/4M (minimum 70% average).

All other Faculties : Provincial High School Diploma - best of 6 4U/4M (minimum 65% average).

China

1. Successful completion of senior secondary school from a selected high school - 65% average required.
2. Successful completion of senior secondary school in high school, not on selected list - 80% average required.
3. Completion of Unilearn Foundation Program (Level IV Advanced), after Yr 11. Grade of 5 required (60%-70%).

Denmark

Senior High School (Studentereksamen) with average grade 7.0 on a 12 point scale (prior to 2007 - 8.0 on 13 point scale).

Fiji

Fiji Seventh form - 70% average in the best four subjects.

Finland

School Leaving Certificate (Lukionpaastotodistus) - overall score of 8 and Matriculation Exam (Ylioppilastutkinto) - grade of C (Cum Laude Approbatur).

France

Baccalaureat de l'Enseignement du Second Degre, Baccalaureat General, Baccalaureat Technologique, Baccalaureat Professionnel, Brevet de Technician or Diplome de Bachelier de l'Enseignement du Second Degre - successful completion with a minimum average of 11.2/20.

Germany

Senior High School (Abitur) or equivalent - minimum average of 3.0 (when 1.0 is the highest).

Global Assessment Certificate (GAC)

Overall GAC Grade Point Average 2.6 (3.6 for Law).

Hong Kong

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education.

Requirement for the Bachelor of Laws: Grade Average of 3.6 from four Core Subjects plus the best grade in one Category A subject.

All other programs (excluding MBBS): Grade Average of 3.0 from four Core Subjects plus the best grade in one Category A subject.

Where: 5* 5**=6, 5=5, 4=4, 3=3, 2=2, 1=1; A*=6, A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1; Attained with Distinction=3, Attained=1.

Iceland

Studentsprof from Gymnasium - minimum grade of 6.0 - 10 point scale. BTEC National Diploma from a technical or vocational school.

India

All Indian Secondary School Certificate (AISSC) or Indian School Certificate (ISC) - minimum 65% average.
 

 

Minimum 70% average for the following State Board Secondary Education exit awards:
• Intermediate Certificate from the Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education
• Pre University Certificate  from the Karnataka Board of Pre-University Education
• Higher Secondary certificate form the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education
• Higher Secondary certificate from the Tamil Nadu Board of Higher Secondary Education

 

Indonesia

Completion of SMA3 (Ebatanas: Sekolah Menegah Atas - now SMU3). Students qualify for Surat Tanda Tamat Belajar Sekolah Menegah Mum Tingat Atas (Senior Secondary School Certificate of Completion). An average of 8.1 required in final year subjects (where 10 is the highest grade).

International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)

Bachelor of Laws require a minimum of 32 points.

Bachelor of Business Law and Bachelor of Jurisprudence, Bachelor of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, Bachelor of Sustainable Environments and Planning, Bachelor of Property and the Science programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences (not MBBS)  require a minimum of 29 points.

Faculty of Business, non Science programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) programs require a minimum of 27 points.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (except for the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology)) require a minimum of 24 points.

Italy

Esame di Stato: minimum 75% average required.

Kenya

Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education - average grade of B- in major subjects; average grade of C+ for provisional offer.

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

Malaysia

 

STPM as per GCE requirements.

Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools (MICSS), minimum score of B4 in at least 5 subjects (cannot include more than one of Chinese Language or Bahas Malaysia).

Mauritius

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

Netherlands

Successful completion of Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (VWO) or Middelbaar Beroepsonderwijs minimum average of 7.5 out of 10.

Nigeria

West African Higher School Certificate - minimum average of 4.4 in the best 6 subjects.

Norway

Upper Secondary Certificate - Vitnemal; den Vidergaende Skole. Minimum grade point average of 3.5 (6 is the highest). Must satisfy requirements for admissions to universities in Norway ("og har oppnadd generell studiekompetanse").

Pakistan

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements) or Higher Secondary School or Intermediate Certificate (Pre-Engineering and Pre-Medical streams) with a minimum of 70% average.

Singapore

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

South Africa

National Senior Certificate. 4.0 grade average of best six subjects in final year (excluding Life Orientation) for all programs except those in the Faculty of Law.  Faculty of Law 5.6 grade average of best six subjects in final year (excluding Life Orientation). Please note the certificate needs to be certified or awarded by Umalusi Council.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education a minimum aggregate of 5 out of 20 in the best 4 subjects.

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

Sweden

Successful completion of Matriculation Certificate (Slutbetyg/Avgangsbetyg/Studentexamen). A minimum average of 2.3 out of 4.0.

Switzerland

Federal Maturity Certificate Maturitatszeugnis (German) with a minimum of 78% average.
 

Successful completion of one of the following with a minimum grade point average of 4.7 out of 6:

Certificat de Maturite (French), Baccalaureat, Attestato di Maturita (Italian), Cantolan Maturity Certificate - Kantonale Maturitat (German),
Maturite Cantonale (French), Maturita Cantonale (Italian).

Taiwan

Senior High School or Junior College Diploma - a minimum grade point average of 90%.

Tanzania

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

Thailand

Matayom 6 with a minimum average of 90%.

United Kingdom

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

USA

For all programs but the Bachelors of Laws: Completed High School Diploma plus SAT I: Critical Reading, SAT I: Mathematics and SAT I: Writing with a composite score of at least 1650.  A minimum of two and a maximum of four Advanced Placement subjects may be used.  ACT score of at least 24.

For the Bachelors of Laws:  Completed High School Diploma plus SAT I: Critical Reading, SAT I: Mathematics and SAT I: Writing with a composite score of at least 2040.  ACT score of at least 31.

Bond University's SAT school code is 5345 and the ACT school code is 5370.

Zimbabwe

GCE A Levels (as per GCE requirements).

 

All countries and qualifications not listed may be required to complete a foundation program at Bond College or a University Diploma.
