Bachelor of Sports Science

Duration: 2 Years Full-Time; Flexible Part-Time Available

Description

The Bachelor of Sports Science provides you with a solid understanding of the basic clinical and applied sciences by which high performance athletes achieve greater results. Learning strategies include a mix of lectures, tutorials and practical sessions using problem solving, case studies and clinical reasoning.

Our Bachelor of Sports Science is the preferred pathway for entry into our one year Master of High Performance Science or two year Doctor of Physiotherapy.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Bond University has a specialist Exercise & Sports Science Laboratory, which is fitted with:

  • state-of-the-art gas analysis systems that measure oxygen consumption;
  • electronic bikes to measure high performance in elite athletes;
  • an Innocor machine which measures cardiac output during exercise and related monitoring of an electrocardiograph;
  • a Vivid i cardiovascular ultrasound system;
  • Holter Monitors to record patient's ECG for 24 hour periods; and
  • extensive biochemical resources to measure the exercise response in high performance athletes.

Work Experience & Internships

Students enrolled in a Bachelor of Sports Science will undertake 100 hours of professional clinical experience in the subject High Performance Science II (SPEX13-314).

Our Sports Science students have conducted their industry experience with the following organisations:

  • Australian Institute of Sport
  • Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence
  • Gold Coast Hospital
  • Pindara Physiotherapy
  • Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital (Cardiac Investigations Unit)
  • Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QMIR)

Professional Outcomes

Graduates will have the opportunity to complete research based Honours qualifications leading to a PhD or to continue study in graduate programs such as High Performance Science or Physiotherapy. Graduates will also be well placed to gain employment as an assistant coach, high performance coordinator, talent identification consultant, performance services advisor or elite program coordinator.
