Centre for New Media Research & Education

New communication technologies and changing social expectations of the media are forcing a redefinition of communication practices and a regrouping of media audiences.

The Centre for New Media Research and Education conducts quantitative and qualitative research focussing on these changes. In its research program it addresses such issues as:

  • world news production and distribution,
  • changing newsroom practices and issues of quality in journalism,
  • new communication technology developments,
  • regulatory practices and their impact,
  • audience changes,
  • special audiences like children, and
  • uses and effects of media on the individual and society.

In its educational program the Centre for New Media Research & Education develops strategies for equipping news media personnel for their changing careers, helping children, parents, educators and policy-makers to use new media more effectively.
